For questions, email SpartanMagazine@msu.edu

  • What's the overall mission of the magazine?

The magazine exists to spark love, pride and respect for Michigan State University.

  • What's the format of the magazine?

"Spartan" magazine typically includes two feature stories; alumni profiles; letters to the editor; messages from MSU's president and the Alumni Office's executive director. In the opening news section, you'll find interesting short stories, university facts and figures, arts and culture news from across campus and more. Class Notes and In Memoriam sections are within the Green & White section devoted to the MSU Alumni Office news, events and ads. The magazine is four-color and is the size of other consumer magazines such as "Sports Illustrated" and "People."

  • How often does the magazine appear?

The magazine is published three times a year: fall, winter and spring.

  • Who receives the magazine?

The magazine reaches 50,000 households and is found in guest rooms of the Kellogg Center. The reading audience is comprised of households from which at least one individual makes a gift to MSU every fiscal year totaling $100 or above. Plus, it is mailed to Michigan legislators, and academic and administrative officers on the MSU campus.

  • Who staffs the magazine?

Tim Cerullo joined the Spartan magazine staff as editor summer 2021. The previous editors of the magazine were Paula M. Davenport, who joined MSU in 2014 to oversee the magazine following long-time editor Bob Bao's retirement. Iain Bogle handles the magazine's design.

  • How do I get information to you for one of the magazine sections?

Write to: Editor, Spartan magazine, 535 Chestnut Road, Room 300, East Lansing, MI 48824; or email SpartanMagazine@msu.edu; or complete a form online.
