About SPARTANS WILL. SERVE

Spartans Will ServeSPARTANS WILL. SERVE is a year-round initiative, and is our way of showing the world the extraordinary impact Spartans make through service. This organized, collaborative effort brings Spartans together to serve others in their communities while demonstrating the reach and power of the Spartan network. Our alumni clubs are our biggest champions and we rely on you to establish and promote projects utilizing the resources and toolkit that we provide.

Every year in April, as part of the SPARTANS WILL. SERVE initiative, there is a Global Day of Service to harness the power of this spirit of service, and demonstrate what Spartans can do in a single day.
This year, Global Day of Service is set for Saturday, April 13, 2019.

Since 2013, SPARTANS WILL. SERVE has been a great success. Nearly 45,000 hours of service have been donated by more than 9,000 volunteers in 725 locations. These volunteers have provided a collective impact valued at $1,007,282 to their causes.

Why should your alumni club participate?
When you’re a Spartan, you’re part of something far bigger than campus’ 5,200 acres. We’re a global community more than 550,000 strong, and we’re passionate about making the world a better place. Spartans have a proud tradition of service - many MSU alumni are inspired to serve in their personal and professional lives. This extends to our alumni clubs who are actively involved in their communities.

SPARTANS WILL. SERVE is an opportunity for alumni clubs to:

      • Demonstrate that any alumni club, regardless of size or proximity to East Lansing, can make a difference in their community.
      • Represent the values of Michigan State University across the nation.
      • Diversify alumni club offerings.
      • Attract new volunteers, including service-minded individuals and alumni of all ages.
      • Engage Spartans in your community

SPARTANS WILL. SERVE Toolkit

The SPARTANS WILL. SERVE toolkit in intended to provide alumni clubs with resources to help you capitalize on all of your service opportunities throughout the year. The Project Planning Guide and additional resources will assist your alumni club in effectively leveraging this initiative to engage alumni in your community.

This toolkit is applicable to all service projects - both the year-round SPARTANS WILL. SERVE initiative, as well as Global Day of Service on April 13, 2019.

We’ve broken the toolkit up into an “a’ la carte” guide – pick and choose what you want to use, there’s no right or wrong way to use the toolkit.
