Generosity Is At the Heart Of All Loyal Spartans

Spartans are inherently philanthropic and that includes students! They are driven by the need to help others and believe it can unite and heal communities in good times and bad.

Are you a member of a student organization? Do you volunteer for community services projects? Are you active in your community? Do you donate blood to the Red Cross? Perhaps you tutor elementary school kids in your free time or simply enjoy helping others with their homework. Volunteer at the hospital? You may even stick to purchasing a certain brand of shoes because they donate another pair to person in need.

Student Volunteering

At Michigan State, we define philanthropy as the giving of one’s time, talent or treasure to benefit the greater good. While donations play a critical role in the financial stability of the university and impact you each day, when you give your time and lend your talents to help someone, you are philanthropic. On behalf of MSU, thank you!

The opportunities below are just some of the ways you can become involved in philanthropy at MSU. We encourage you to review options, see what is most appropriate for you and determine how you will make an impact!

The Spartan Days of Service

Community service is an integral component of your MSU student experience. The Spartan Days of Service are a perfect way for you, your group of friends or organization to get involved and make an impact in the local community. Learn more information about volunteering for a Spartan Day of Service.

CrowdPower Campaigns

Empower the ideas, organizations and causes you are passionate about through CrowdPower, MSU’s crowdfunding platform. Whether it’s raising money to purchase supplies, host events or attend competitions or conferences, CrowdPower is a great way to support the projects fellow students are working on right now!

Senior Class Campaign

As a senior, you have an opportunity to support whatever part of your Spartan experience has been most meaningful to you as part of the Senior Class Campaign. Whatever your passion is, there is an opportunity for you to pay it forward to the next generation of MSU students. By giving at least $60 within your senior year, you earn a philanthropy cord to wear during graduation. The green and white cord shows your commitment to and support of Michigan State. Learn more information on how to participate in the Senior Class Campaign!

Thank-a-Donor Days

More than 100,000 alumni and friends give back to Michigan State University each year, donating to programs and scholarship funds that are meaningful to them. These donors ensure that MSU students are provided with an extraordinary education and are graduating, on average, with lower student debt than students from other institutions across the state of Michigan.

Throughout the year, students can visit designated locations across campus to write thank-you notes that will be mailed to donors in appreciation of their generosity. Check back throughout the year to learn where you can participate on campus.
