Make an Impact on the MSU Global Day of Service

The desire to do good and offer one's service has not waned with social distancing practices. If anything, the will to serve is stronger than ever.

The Global Day of Service began in 2013 as a day for Spartans across the world to gather on service to their local communities. This annual event is committed to demonstrating the amount of good that can be done in a single day, while connecting Spartans to a common cause around the world.

Our proud tradition of service starts with the thousands of students who give back annually as part of the Center for Community Engaged Learning, registered student organizations, their academic units and our Spartan Days of Service. After graduation, alumni are inspired to serve through our alumni clubs, their employers or for personal causes they care about. Making a difference is what Spartans do.

Not available on the MSU Global Day of Service? You can participate in a number of service projects year-round, or you can make an impact by supporting the university financially.

About Spartans Serve

Spartans Serve is a year-round initiative designed to show the world the extraordinary impact Spartans can make through service. This organized, collaborative effort brings Spartans together to serve others in their communities while demonstrating the reach and power of the Spartan network.

 THE IMPACT

Since 2013, Spartans Serve has been a great success. More than 57,000 hours of service have been donated by more than 12,000 volunteers in nearly 1,000 locations. These volunteers have provided a collective impact valued at $1.375 million to their causes.

Thank you to the volunteers who donate their time, energy, and talents, without you the impact of Spartans Serve would not reach as far.

Plan a project

Do you have a need in your community or cause you're passionate about? Consider planning a service project near you!

All service projects should be registered on serve.msu.edu. There are many helpful resources to assist with your project creation.

We encourage all who create a project to review the Project Planning Guide, which is intended to assist in the creation, registration, promotion, execution and follow-up for a service project.

VOLUNTEER FOR A PROJECT

All service projects are registered on serve.msu.edu. You can browse the website as the date gets nearer to see what projects are happening in your community.

If you do not see a service project listed near you, contact your local alumni club. Chances are they’re planning something, but it may not be registered. Otherwise, you may also consider planning a project yourself — it's a great way to connect with fellow Spartans for a good cause and the MSU Alumni Office is here to help you plan a successful service project. If you have questions about the Global Day of Service, please see our frequently asked questions.
