There are over 100 MSU alumni clubs worldwide spreading their love of the university and what it means to be a Spartan. Members of the club unite with fellow Spartans to serve their community and share their spirit with the next generation of Spartans. One way alumni clubs help future Spartans is through fundraising for scholarships. Alumni and friends make contributions to regionally specific scholarships that allow students to attend Michigan State University. Over $8.6M has been raised for these scholarship funds.

The Nebraska Spartans do a great job of providing opportunities for students in their area. The club raised $9,300 during the 2019 Give Green Day, and they also started an endowment in 2016 that they continue to develop.

In December, the club held a reception to celebrate and grow the endowment. Over 30 Spartans were in attendance, including current Nebraska Spartan Scholarship recipients. The club currently has 33 donors, $227,000 total assets and nearly $75,000 in commitments for their scholarship endowment. As a result of their efforts, the Nebraska Spartans are able to send four students to Michigan State University on scholarship. These four students shared the reasons why the Nebraska Spartan’s scholarships have been so important to their success at Michigan State University.

To them, being a Spartan:

Means being a part of a huge campus but still being able to find your community. […] It is nice to be on such a large campus but to also have smaller communities to be a part of.

     -Grace Dempsey, current student

Is so much more than the school and the sports, it’s the community. I love the community here!

    -Cammy Gregor, current student

Means striving to achieve my goals and understanding failure is not the end, but a new lesson to be learned.

    -Destiny Hunnicutt, current student

The Nebraska Spartans helped bring the MSU community to these students, and because of their genorosity, these students have the opportunity to experience what being a Spartan truly means.

The MSU Alumni Office appreciates the efforts of alumni and friends who participate in these alumni clubs. There are so many ways to get involved. Locate your local alumni club today or participate in their scholarship fundraising efforts during Give Green Day!
