Mark and Barb Amo met as freshmen at Michigan State University. 53 years later, they're back on campus for Grandparents University with their grandchildren.
53 years ago, Mark and Barb Amo met as freshmen at Michigan State University. It was the fall of ‘66—Barb lived in Holmes and Mark lived in McDonel. They fell in love and got married on July 11, 1970. Three children and six grandchildren later—they have celebrated 49 years of marriage.
Mark and Barb attended Grandparents University for the first time this year. Mark stated, “There is no way to put into words the deep emotions, love and generational bonding we all experienced— we learned, shared, ate, prayed and loved on one another during the 3 days.” Mark and Barb were able to create memories that their grandchildren will cherish for a lifetime.
There is no way to put into words the deep emotions, love and generational bonding we all experienced.
Attending classes with her on our old stomping grounds was so amazing and simply priceless.
Barb and her granddaughter stayed in the exact room that Barb lived in 52 years ago. Barb was able to share the memories she had as a student with her granddaughter, all while making invaluable new memories. Mark stated, “Attending classes with her on our old stomping grounds was so amazing and simply priceless.” If Mark and Barb’s grandchildren attend MSU, there will be 4 generations of Spartans within the family.
Grandparents University is more than just an event, it’s a way to build memories with your grandchildren that will be treasured forever. It promotes bonding between Spartans from generation to generation. If you’re interested in attending next year, June 30-July 2, 2020 - visit our website.
