The MSU Alumni Office has partnered with filmmakers at Magnolia Pictures to provide an exclusive opportunity for alumni, faculty, staff and friends to watch “John Lewis: Good Trouble” in a virtual cinema experience.
For each $12 stream of the film purchased, $5 will be donated to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Endowed Scholarship Program at Michigan State University. This scholarship was established in 2004 and recognizes Michigan State University students who are becoming society’s leaders by actively engaging in building inclusive communities in ways that fight injustice and promote equality for all on every possible level.
An intimate account of legendary U.S. Representative John Lewis’ life, legacy and more than 60 years of extraordinary activism — from the bold teenager on the front lines of the Civil Rights movement to the legislative powerhouse he was throughout his career. After Lewis petitioned Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to help integrate a segregated school in his hometown of Troy, Alabama, King sent “the boy from Troy” a round trip bus ticket to meet with him. From that meeting onward, Lewis became one of King’s closest allies. He organized Freedom Rides that left him bloodied or jailed, and stood at the front lines in the historic marches on Washington and Selma. He never lost the spirit of “the boy from Troy” and called on his fellow Americans to get into “good trouble” until his passing on July 17, 2020.
The film will be available to rent through at least Dec. 31. Once the film is rented, it will be available to view for 30 days and viewers will have 72 hours to finish once they’ve started watching.
The virtual cinema experience is hosted by Eventive. Want to know what the system requirements are? Can you play the movie on your TV? Need to troubleshoot? View Eventive’s FAQ’s.
