Dear Spartan family,
I write today to update you with the latest information directly from MSU related to the ongoing investigations into the actions of former MSU doctor Larry Nassar. His story has received significant national media coverage and continues to be a focus of media attention here in Michigan. Today, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette and MSU Police Chief Jim Dunlap held a press conference to provide updates on sexual assault allegations against Nassar.
Attached is a link the Key Issues area of the msu.edu website. It includes statements on this issue from President Simon, Chief of Police Jim Dunlap, and Board of Trustees Chairman Brian Breslin. In addition, the site contains a link to a message to the MSU community President Simon sent earlier this month to all alumni, students, faculty, and staff.
I also want to call your attention to remarks from President Simon at last Friday’s Board of Trustees meeting. These remarks help provide important context as you encounter various stories or comments in media or social media regarding different ongoing investigations at the university related to different allegations connected to sexual assault and sexual harassment.
I echo Chairman Breslin’s statement that “sexual assault has no place in our Spartan community,” and join President Simon in the commitment that we are dedicated to being “better tomorrow than we are today.” Our great university and the values that are the foundation of our character have endured for more than 160 years. It is my belief we will continue to approach the challenges we face with abiding resolve, integrity, and compassion.
