Michigan State University's mascot, Sparty, is the heart of the university: forever supporting its teams, bringing smiles to young and old and continually uplifting all who meet him.
Sparty is both fearless and lovable, recognized throughout the state of Michigan and across the nation. He is big and strong, garnering the honor of being voted “Buffest Mascot” by Muscle and Fitness Magazine. Sparty has also been crowned the national champion mascot three times by the Universal Cheer Association, and participates in events across the country — including the NCAA Hall of Champions: Mascot Mania and the Capital One Mascot Challenge.
Despite his size, strength and storied history, Sparty is always available to greet MSU fans with a hug or friendly high-five.

SPARTY MASCOT TRYOUTS
Think you’ve got what it takes to be the world’s most famous mascot? Join us at tryouts for the opportunity to join Sparty's legacy. The Sparty mascot selection process begins in the fall semester for the following academic year.
SUPPORT THE SPARTY MASCOT PROGRAM
While Sparty is seen at virtually every athletic and alumni event, the majority of his appearances happen at hospitals, nonprofit organizations and elementary schools. He has comforted terminal cancer patients, toasted with many Spartan brides and grooms and has probably cut more ribbons than a dozen city mayors. In addition, Sparty’s Literacy Tour has introduced tens of thousands of youth to the joys of reading and to the magic of the Spartan spirit.
The Sparty Mascot Program is separate from athletics and is completely self-funded, so we depend on generosity of our alumni, donors and friends to help us keep Sparty looking sharp and accessible to Spartans everywhere. Anyone can help support Sparty and ensure that this one-of-a-kind program remains available by contributing to the Sparty Mascot Endowment Fund.
