MSU Alumni Events and Programs
The MSU Alumni Office offers a diverse range of events and programs all year round for alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends to participate in. Whether you explore new places with fellow alumni through the Spartan Pathways Travel program, continue to learn through the educational Coffee with the Profs series, or celebrate your Spartan spirit at Homecoming, we have a program for you.
Alumni Grand Awards
Each year, the MSU Alumni Office recognizes Spartans who positively reflect and enhance the prestige of Michigan State University with an Alumni Grand Award. In many cases, their life’s work has influenced industry, innovation, the arts, science, research, etc., on a national or global level and they are making an impact in their professions, their communities and for MSU. The Alumni Grand Awards are among the highest awards that the university bestows on its alumni.
Coffee with the Profs
One of the MSU Alumni Office’s long-standing featured offerings, the Coffee with the Profs series highlights research and work done by some of MSU’s finest faculty and staff.
Michigan State University welcomes young Spartans ages 8-13 and their grandparents to campus for a unique inter-generational learning experience at Grandparents University. This three-day campus experience actively engages participants in MSU academics while creating lasting family memories. Grandchildren and grandparents participate in classes and evening programming and experience college life by living and dining in an MSU residence hall.
MSU’s Homecoming is an honored Spartan tradition where alumni near and far return to campus during a week-long celebration to gather together, reminisce and show their Spartan spirit. Celebration activities coordinated by the MSU Alumni Office include the selection of the Homecoming Court, Homecoming Grand Marshal, the Homecoming Parade and the Homecoming Parade Reception.
Each year we celebrate and honor the 50-year reunion of our MSU alums who are invited to return to campus for several special opportunities throughout the year.
Odyssey to Oxford
Odyssey to Oxford offers participants the opportunity to quench their thirst for knowledge by studying at one of the world’s most famous universities while they experience Oxford as a student. This two-week lifelong education abroad program takes participants on a rare adventure to Oxford, England, “City of Dreaming Spires,” and to the University of Oxford, a great center of learning since the 12th century.
Sojourn in St. Andrews
Sojourn in St. Andrews is one-week lifelong education abroad program in St. Andrews, Scotland, a historic, seaside destination on many bucket lists. The program offers participants the opportunity to study at the oldest university in Scotland and the third oldest university in the English-speaking world, the University of St. Andrews, which was founded in 1413 and embraces centuries of history within its walls.
