Catherine Adams, M.A.'81, assistant administrator of the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service, Washington, DC, has been named director of scientific and technical affairs for the Grocery Manufacturers of America. Adams served as associate director of international programs at the International Life Science Institute-Nutrition Foundation in Washington, DC, from 1986-87 and was a research assistant with Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL from 1982-86. She is a member of the Institute of Food Technologists, and serves on several executive committees for the institute.

James Barrett,'70, president and CEO of the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, Lansing, has been named chairman elect of the American Chamber of Commerce Executives, Alexandria, VA. He also heads the Michigan Chamber Services, Inc., which services the business community. Barrett is a former director of the U.S. Chamber and has served on several of their committees. He co-chairs the Michigan Association of School Boards Foundation for Education Leadership and is a director of the Center for International Private Enterprise in Washington D.C.

Nancy Belck, Ph.D.'72, dean and professor in the College of Education, Health and Human Services at Central Michigan University, Mt. Pleasant, has been named provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at Louisiana State University/ Shreveport. She was chair and director of Cooperative Extension and associate professor in the School of Family and Consumer Resources at the University of Arizona, Tucson from 1976-79 and dean and professor of the College of Human Ecology at University of Tennessee/Knoxville from 1979-87.

Katherine Cappelli,'75, vice president of sales and marketing for the Detroit Cellular Telephone Company has been named vice president of marketing for Cellular One of Ohio and Michigan, Detroit. Cappelli joined Detroit Cellular in 1987 as director of marketing. Previously she had been employed by AT&T Consumer Products and Michigan Bell both in the Detroit area. She is a member of the Oakland Executives Assoc. and the Detroit Women's Economic Club.

Frank J. DeDecker, '49, chairman of the board of Spalding, DeDecker & Assoc., Inc. of Madison Heights, a consulting engineering and surveying firm, has been named by Gov. Engler to the five-member State Survey and Remonumentation Commission. The commission will oversee the development of each county's remonumentation program which serves as the basis for all public and property locations including roads, highways, public utility lines, railroads and other public works throughout the state. DeDecker, a registered professional engineer for over 40 years, resides in Warren. He and his wife Jean are members of the MSU Presidents Club.

James W. Didier, Ph.D.'65, executive vice president of Judson College, Elgin, IL, has been named the fourth president of Judson College. In 1958-59 he was a part-time prof at Northern Baptist Seminary (now Judson College). In the early 60's, while at MSU, Didier organized and directed the Baptist Campus Ministry and served as Baptist chaplain and president of the Religious Advisors Assoc. In 1967 he became Judson College's first dean of student affairs. In 1980 he was named the executive vice president of Judson College.

Ruth A. Dutton, M.A.'86, director of Organization and Employee Development for GM International Export Sales, Detroit, since 1990, has been named director of GM Overseas Distribution Corp. and IES Business Planning Operations, Detroit. Dutton joined GM in 1962 in the personnel dept. at Pontiac. In 1977 she became manager, divisional Quality of Work Life activities, and then was named general supervisor, salaried personnel administration in 1982. She became personnel director for Pontiac in 1985 and manager, personnel planning, for the GM personnel staff in 1989.

Tom Fennell, '83, regional sales director for Sportschannel America, Atlanta, has been named regional director of affiliate services for NBC Olympics Triplecast, Atlanta. He was with Cablevision Service Co., Inc. Exeter, NH, from 1984-87. Fennell then became manager of affiliate relations for Request TV, Atlanta. In 1989, he was made regional sales director of Sportschannel America, Atlanta, a position he held until he was tapped last summer to help with the broadcast of the Summer Olympics.

Frederick A. Fromm Jr., '73, manager of the Indianapolis office of the GM legal staff responsible for legal matters for Delco Electronics, Allison Gas Turbine, Delco Remy and Allison Transmission divisions, has been named secretary of Delco Electronics Corp., Kokomo, IN, and secretary of GM Hughes Electronics Corp. Fromm was a judicial law clerk for the Michigan Court of Appeals in Detroit from 1976-77. He then joined the legal staff of GM in Detroit, first with the Environmental and Energy Law Section and then Staff Marketing Section and divisional counsel to Buick.

Richard E. Holmes, M.D.'77, emergency room physician at Decatur General Hospital, Decatur, AL, and first black graduate of Mississippi State, Starkville, MS, has been honored by having the school's Office of Minority Affairs, renamed the Holmes Cultural Diversity Center. Holmes was a clinical instructor in the Dept. of Family Medicine, University of Alabama, Birmingham, in 1981-82. He has served as staff physician and emergency room physician in several hospitals in Alabama and Mississippi.

Lynn M. Hoopingarner, '80, manager with Entrepreneurial Services Group of Ernst & Young, Los Angeles, has been named director of business development at Hankin & Co., Los Angeles. She will head Hankin & Co.'s marketing and business development efforts. Prior to Ernst & Young, Hoopingarner was an asst. vice president with Wells Fargo Bank, Los Angeles. She also was a second vice president with Chase Manhattan Bank, New York and then with their branches in Orange and San Diego counties, CA.

Denise DeVito, '80, technical writer with McDonnell Douglas Space Systems Co., Kennedy Space Center, FL, was selected as a NASA Manned Flight Awareness (MFA) honoree. This award is considered the highest recognition in NASA's MFA program. From 1986-89, DeVito worked as a special projects manager and then was the Valkaria Airport supervisor, developing and operating the 650 acre facility, all in Brevard County, FL. In the early 1980's she worked as a city planner in Morgantown and Fairmont, WV.

Gary Krueger, '70, senior vice president/worldwide corporate account marketing for Dun & Bradstreet Software, Framingham, MA, has been named vice president, North American Operations, a new position, for Bachman Information Systems, Inc., Burlington, MA. Krueger held several sales and marketing positions for Service Bureau Co.(then a subsidiary of IBM) in Lansing, Cincinnati, Milwaukee, and Greenwich, CT. He then joined McCormack & Dodge, Boston, where he served as corporate vice president, domestic field operations.

Jeffrey M. Leib, '64, president of the law firm of Leib, Leib and Kramer, P.C., Southfield, has been named president of the Oakland County Bar Association (OCBA). He began his career as an Oakland Co. asst. prosecutor in 1967 and then became the legal adviser to the Oakland Co. probate court. He entered private practice in 1973. Leib has been a director of the OCBA since 1983, serving as treasurer, secretary, and president-elect. He previously served as president of the Southfield Bar Association and is a member of MSU's Presidents Club.

Cynthia (Cam) McAra, '73, M.A.'74, executive vice president for Family Service Life, Dallas, a Torchmark subsidiary, has been named president of Family Service Life of Dallas. She held supervisory positions in major advertising firms in Chicago and Dallas from 1974- 1981.
