Beal Garden Celebrates 150 Years

Established in 1873 by William J. Beal, the Beal Botanical Garden is the longest continuously operated university botanical garden in the country and is listed on the Michigan State Register of Historic Places.

This living laboratory, located along the Red Cedar River in the heart of MSU’s campus, encourages learning and exploration of the natural world through collaborative programming, research, teaching and public engagement.

In 2023, Beal Botanical Garden celebrates 150 years of learning and making memories. Join us in commemorating decades of plants and people coming together to make this place such a meaningful part of our campus. Share your Beal Garden memories with us online or plan a visit throughout the year as each blooming season unfolds.
