MSU conducted a comprehensive alumni data verification project
June 23, 2023In 2023, the MSU Alumni Office launched a comprehensive data verification project called the MSU Alumni Census. As we prepare to go to print, we cannot take further updates through the MSU Alumni Census for the alumni publication.

The census was being conducted by Publishing Concepts, Inc. (PCI), a renowned and safe data collection company we are contracting with for the project. PCI will ship alumni directories in August 2024. If you would like to cancel your order, you can contact PCI’s customer service helpdesk at 1-800-982-1590 or customerservice@publishingconcepts.com.

When will I receive the merchandise and book I ordered?
- PCI is hoping to ship the apparel in spring 2024 and the hardbound book in August 2024. If you would like to cancel your order, you can contact PCI’s customer service helpdesk at 1-800-982-1590 or customerservice@publishingconcepts.com.
I received an email/postcard/phone call from a company asking for my personal information and said they were working with Michigan State University Alumni Office. Is this a legitimate project or is it a scam?
- It’s legit! We have partnered with PCI to produce our new alumni directory. PCI is a family-owned business based in Dallas, TX, that has published directories for educational institutions, fraternities, sororities, and military organizations nationwide for almost 100 years.
- This project allows Michigan State University Alumni Office to receive important updates to our database so we can better serve our alumni.
Will my data be secure?
- Yes, all data will remain very secure. PCI is PCI DSS Level 1 Compliant and has been tested by some of the best organizations in the country, passing with flying colors every time. All data exchanges between the MSU Alumni Office and PCI happen through a secure SSH File Transfer Protocol (SFTP). For more information, please see PCI's Privacy Policy.
Can I request that some or all my information not be printed in the directory?
- When you call to update your information, you can tell the representative what information you prefer to have excluded. You may also communicate this information to the PCI customer service desk at 1-800-982-1590 or email customerservice@publishingconcepts.com
Does Michigan State University Alumni Office benefit from this at all?
- Yes, in a few different ways:
- Updated Information – allows us to communicate with and engage alumni effectively
- Legacy – preserves the history of our school
- Pride – wearing apparel shows support and love for our school
- Engagement – Proceeds from directory sales support alumni engagement programs and student scholarships
How do I know that my information will only be used for directory purposes?
- PCI is committed to protecting your information. The names, addresses and information provided to PCI for the publication of the Directory will be held confidential by PCI, except to the extent that they are utilized in, or in the preparation of, the Directory and except as required by court order or law. Upon completion of the project, PCI will redact PII (Personal Identifiable Information) from any and all electronic files that we have supplied or was produced by PCI in connection with the production of the directory.
Can I complete this online?
- Yes. If you prefer to complete the MSU Alumni Census online, please fill out the Personalized Online Link Request Form and we will send you a secure link to update your profile. If you choose to call PCI and update your profile over the phone, they will provide an opportunity for you to purchase a printed directory or other branded items.
I would like to verify or update my information. How may I do this?
- If you received a postcard or an email with a telephone number, you may call the number to speak with a real, live human being representing the Michigan State University Alumni Office project. They will verify the information we have on file for you and make any updates where needed.
- If you prefer to complete the MSU Alumni Census online, please fill out the Personalized Online Link Request Form and we will send you a secure link to update your profile. If you choose to call PCI and update your profile over the phone, they will provide an opportunity for you to purchase a printed directory or other branded items.
- If you received an email with an embedded link, simply click the link to go to the online site to review your information.
Do I have to buy something?
- No. The project is completely funded by the alumni who choose to purchase the alumni directory that will be produced as part of the project. Various packages will be offered to you, and PCI also will offer you the option to purchase MSU Alumni-branded merchandise. You are welcome to purchase these items, but you are not required to do so to participate. This project is being done at no cost to the MSU Alumni Office. We would not be able to embark on a project like this without the support of our amazing alumni and the partnership with PCI. We sincerely thank every person that participates and chooses to purchase the book.
Can I choose what information prints in the directory?
- When you call to update your information, you can tell the representative if you prefer any of your information to be excluded. You can also communicate your preferences to PCI’s customer service helpdesk at 1-800-982-1590 / customerservice@publishingconcepts.com.
How can I be removed from this census?
- Email myalumni@msu.edu if you would like to be removed from receiving emails and postcards regarding the census.
Can anyone purchase a directory?
- The Michigan State University Alumni Directory is available for sale only to Michigan State University alumni. You will be listed in the directory whether you decide to purchase a copy or not.
I ordered a directory/package over the phone and would like to cancel my order. How do I do this?
