Spartans Attend Educational Experience in Alabama

Spartan athletes traced the steps of the U.S. civil rights movement alongside other Big Ten schools.

Sophomore football player Dillon Tatum, track & field graduate student Nala Barlow, junior volleyball player Aliyah Moore and sophomore volleyball player Jayhlin Swain joined representatives from all 14 Big Ten schools in Alabama this summer for the second

“Big Life Series: Selma to Montgomery.”From July 14-16, the athletes traced the steps of the U.S. civil rights movement, highlighted by a march across the historic Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma. The excursion included visits to several civil rights museums, panels and keynote speakers, as well as a community service project.

An initiative led by the Big Ten Equality Coalition, the “Big Life Series” highlights the conference’s ongoing commitment to examine and search for answers to the racial, social, religious and cultural challenges faced by our country.
