Student Spotlight: Jessica Beach

Meet one of our newest alumni: Jessica Beach! She studied Fisheries and Wildlife with a concentration in Wildlife Biology and Management during her time at Michigan State. Jessica was also one of the Commencement Speakers for the Baccalaureate Degree Ceremony for the 2023 Fall Semester. She said that growing up listening to speakers impart wisdom, as well as share experiences that have shaped who they’ve become, inspired her to give her own speech at Commencement.

While at MSU, Jessica was a member of the Fisheries and Wildlife Club. She also worked as a resident assistant for two years—a position that strengthened her time management and communication skills. Jessica’s favorite part of being an RA was making connections and seeing familiar faces around campus years after having them as residents.

Jessica had an unorthodox path to graduation from transferring from community college to taking a year off during the covid pandemic. These experiences supplemented her overall college experience and provided her with new perspectives on life. She encourages students to make decisions that are truly right for them and their educational journeys, and not based on societal pressures and expectations to follow a “traditional path.”

Jessica plans to attend graduate school, gain work experience, and eventually pursue a career in ecosystem management.
