Tyler Lindquist, Why I Serve

Meet Tyler Lindquist! He is a senior majoring in Spanish and Arabic with minors in Portuguese, Russian, and Latin American and Caribbean Studies. After graduation, Tyler plans to pursue his PhD, potentially in the fields of anthropology, sociology, or linguistics, and eventually become a professor.

“Migration studies is something I am keen on incorporating whether it be a master's program or something I research as it connects many of the interests of my undergraduate studies.”

When not in the classroom, Tyler leads the Portuguese Club at MSU, an organization he founded. He said he started the club to promote the study of the language, as well as the awareness of Portuguese-speaking regions around the world. Tyler is also Co-President of International Samaritan MSU Chapter, an organization that serves low-income communities.

“I have been involved with many other organizations over my years at MSU, and I love getting to work hand-in-hand with other Spartans to make a difference in our community and world.”

An avid volunteer since childhood, Tyler said he loves the atmosphere MSU has created surrounding service both on and off campus, with countless opportunities available to students. He said it’s important for students to volunteer because of the impact it has on our community.

“When we come together for a good cause, to support others, that's when we build true community – something far more important than being just colleagues or classmates.”
