Student Spotlight: Tessa Kresch
Meet Tessa Kresch! She’s a senior pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting, as well as a degree in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Tessa has also been chosen as one of the Commencement Speakers for the Baccalaureate Degree Ceremony for the 2024 Fall Semester.
She said she was inspired to give a speech at the ceremony because she wanted to spread a joyous and uplifting message to the graduating class and highlight the Spartan community’s resilience.
“After college, we’re all stepping into a world of unknown, kind of like how it feels when we start college, so it’s just a reassuring message that we have the tools, the resources, and the connections to flourish in life. The Spartan network is so powerful and it’s daunting, but we’re not alone.”
Tessa is originally from Farmington Hills, Michigan, but moved to Puerto Rico during high school. She said choosing a college to attend during the height of the COVID pandemic was difficult, but she was drawn to MSU because of the university’s high quality acting department and the proximity to her family.
During her four and a half years here, Tessa was a Senior News Producer and Podcast Host of Exposure at Impact Radio, sound designed multiple plays and musicals, and was in the main cast of six productions, including playing Miss Scarlet in Clue, which was a major highlight of her MSU experience. Tessa said she “owes so much” to Impact, as her time at the radio station is what inspired her to pursue a second degree in Broadcast Journalism.
Tessa said her favorite part of the MSU community is the pride that all Spartans have for the university and the connection it inspires throughout the world. Her advice to incoming freshmen is to join a club, hold on to the friends that you make here, and take advantage of all the opportunities the university has to offer.
Tessa currently works as a reporter for WLNS 6 News and hopes to continue in the broadcast industry after graduation.
