CWTP | Equity Imperative for Teaching and Teacher Education
The student demographics of U.S. schools have significantly shifted from what they were 25 or 50 years ago. Yet, the teaching population has remained primarily white and female and educators are challenged with enacting culturally relevant and responsive practices in a high-stakes accountability, standardized, de-professionalized era. Dorinda Carter Andrews, assistant dean, equity outreach initiatives, and associate professor, Department of Teacher Education will give an overview of key developments in teaching and teacher education that make the equity imperative related to race and culture a top priority for schools.
