2022 Homecoming Recap

MSU 2022 Homecoming Parade

2022 Homecoming Recap

SPARTANS BROUGHT THE MAGIC

This year’s Homecoming theme, Spartans Bring the Magic, celebrated Spartans around the world creating real-life magic by making the world a better place. When we’re young, we associate magic with wands, fairies and enchantment. As we grow, we see this magic in a new light — we realize that the key to unlocking real-life miracles is education, collaboration and hard work. Across industries and around the world, Spartans are creating real-life magic on a daily basis — breakthroughs, innovations and new ideas to make the world a better place. We saw this same enthusiasm and drive come to life in various ways by MSU units, departments and student groups in their communications, events, promotions and parade entries.

Whether you made it back home to campus or participated virtually, we hope you enjoyed the celebrations.

HOMECOMING PARADE

The 2022 Homecoming Parade took place Oct. 14 and featured over 100 entries. Did you miss the parade or want to rewatch it? Check out the recorded livestream and photos from the parade.

Parade participants walked, rode, rolled and flipped their way through the streets of East Lansing while thousands of spectators watched.

A panel of judges voted for the 2022 parade winners in the following categories:

  • Best Float – MSU Foresty Club
  • Best Banner – MSU Impluse Dance
  • Best Group – Student Greenhouse Project

This year’s Homecoming Parade would not have been possible without the help of Spartan volunteers — alumni, students and staff, and the participation of the Spartan community.

HOMECOMING GRAND MARSHAL

MSU welcomes Coach James Bibbs as this year’s Homecoming grand marshal. Bibbs was the first Black head coach at the university and first Black head track coach in the Big Ten. His deep commitment to youth and passion for the sport has gained the respect of countless colleagues, athletes, parents and friends nationwide.

KEDZIE REUNION LUNCHEON

Spartans from graduating classes of 50 or more years ago were invited to return to campus during Homecoming Week for the Kedzie Reunion Luncheon. We welcomed the class of 1972 into the Kedzie Society and reminisced on their days at Michigan State University.

Check out photos from the event.

HOMECOMING COURT GIVING INITIATIVE

The 2022 MSU Homecoming Court is made up of 12 extraordinary Spartan students who represent the diversity and richness of the MSU experience, all with their own unique Spartan magic. In celebration of the 2022 Homecoming theme, court members chose to support the MSU M.A.G.I.C. program.

Spartan raised nearly $2,400 in support of this project and there is still time to raise more!

This program is designed to help incoming students begin the process of becoming successful Spartans during the summer, before classes begin in August. Thank you to all who gave.
