Homecoming 2023 Schedule of Events

MSU will celebrate Homecoming 2023 with a variety of activities for alumni, students, faculty, staff and community members Sept. 18-23. The Homecoming Parade features the Spartan Marching Band, Michigan high school marching bands, MSU campus groups, community organizations, university officials, Sparty and much more.

Whether you’re coming home to East Lansing or joining us virtually, here are some ways to celebrate Homecoming 2023 with the Spartan community. 
 

Monday, Sept. 18

  • Homecoming Heroes 
    • 9 p.m. – midnight 
    • Wells Hall B115
    • No cost for students to attend 
    • Calling all heroes, sidekicks and fans: UAB and RHA are hosting a mystery hero movie night and we'd love to have you there! Free snacks, stickers and other themed giveaways are waiting while supplies last. Come on by and enjoy this awesome movie night with your friends to kick-start MSU's Homecoming week!

Tuesday, Sept. 19

  • Brunch at Beaumont 
    • 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
    • Beaumont Tower Courtyard 
    • No cost for students to attend 
    • Have you ever wanted to step inside Beaumont Tower? Take a journey back in time with MSU’s very own Tower Guard and members of the College of Music to learn about the history of this famous landmark. While you wait for a tour, enjoy brunch with new and old friends in the tower courtyard to celebrate the start of fall. Tours and brunch will be available for all students on a first-come, first-served basis, so come early and enjoy the morning with us!

  • Homecoming Hypnotism
    • 8 – 9 p.m.
    • MSU Union Ballroom 
    • No cost for students to attend 
    • Mysterious. Glamorous. Magical. A night of hypnotism with UAB can't be anything else, especially with Miss Uchawi! This powerhouse hypnotist has been seen on TEDx, national theatres and the 2023 Grammys and 2022 World Cup commercials. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity awaits you during Homecoming week and you don't want to miss it!

Wednesday, Sept. 20

  • 8th Annual Exercise is Medicine on Campus Healthy Homecoming Walk
    • 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. 
    • Dem Hall Field (rain day location is IM East)
    • No cost to attend
    • The walk is a friendly competition with other Exercise is Medicine on Campus (EIM-OC) universities in the U.S. and aims to promote exercise on campus. Participants can walk quarter-mile laps around the sidewalk of the field at Dem Hall. The event will include
      well-being activities and demonstrations from departments across MSU from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm. Participation is open to MSU students, faculty, staff and alumni, and the first 100 people will get a free T-shirt.

  • MSU Downtown Coaches Club Dinner Event 
    • 5 – 7 p.m.
    • Reno’s East Sports Bar and Grill, 1310 Abbot Rd.
    • Cost to attend: $21 for members, $26 for non-members 
    • Join the official MSU Football Booster Club for a dinner meeting to hear from football team representatives. Choose from select dinner options for your meal.

  • Trivia with Zeke 
    • 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
    • Union Ballroom
    • No cost for students to attend
    • How much do you really know about MSU's favorite Wonderdog? Put your knowledge to the test during a trivia night with questions about all things Zeke! Stuff your own Zeke the dog to take home, spin the wheel for Zeke-themed prizes, and pet the famous dog yourself! Treats, giveaways and more are available for all students while supplies last.

  • Broadway’s Mandy Gonzalez: Fearless 
    • 7:30 p.m.
    • Wharton Center for Performing Arts
    • Cost to attend: $45 for public, $19 for student/youth
    • Star of Broadway's Hamilton, In The Heights, Wicked and more, Mandy Gonzalez opens Wharton Center's 23-24 season with a night of songs and stories.

Thursday, Sept. 21

  • 2nd Annual UG Flex & Flow 
    • 6 – 7:30 p.m.
    • Dem Hall Field 
    • No cost to attend 
    • Join us for this special collaboration between various campus partners and the Ultimate Growth Foundation. This year’s admission is free, but we welcome donations to support The Greg H. Montgomery Jr. Foundation. They are dedicated to raising awareness and funds for schools and communities, focusing on wellness and suicide prevention, especially as September marks National Suicide Prevention Month.

  • I Wanna Rock! 
    • 7 – 8:30 p.m.
    • Student Services Building Garden 
    • No cost for students to attend 
    • Rock and roll back into the 80s with UAB to celebrate Homecoming 2023! Come paint your own rock to take home with you, just like the famous MSU landmark. We'll have the greatest hits of the 80s rocking the bass while you rock at arts and crafts (while supplies last). Special treats and cookies await you, so come enjoy the evening with us!

Friday, Sept. 22

  • Osteopathic Open, Tailgate and Football Game 
    • 8 a.m. registration, 9 a.m. shotgun start 
    • Forest Akers-East Golf Course

    • MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine alumni golf outing and football tailgate.

  • Green and White Mass
    • 10 a.m. 
    • St. John Student Center 
    • No cost to attend
    • St. John Student Center will host a Green & White Mass for all alumni, students, faculty and staff. Following the Mass, there will be a social gathering in the St. John Student Lounge.

  • Homecoming Performance: And Those Spartans Play Good Ball
    • 2 – 6 p.m. 
    • MSU Broad Art Museum 
    • No cost to attend 
    • While in line for the parade, stop by the MSU Broad Art Museum to experience a performance installation work by performance artist Mike Durkin, focused on the intersection between sports, art, and community building. This program is offered in collaboration with the MSU Department of Theatre and the exhibition Resistance Training: Arts, Sports and Civil Rights.

  • Holmescoming Tailgate – Lyman Briggs College

    • No cost to attend, but rsvp here
    • The whole LBC community is invited (students, alumni, faculty, donors, staff, friends and family members) to a Holmescoming Tailgate at Holmes Hall! We will have complimentary apple cider, popcorn and donuts, with lunch options available for purchase from a local food truck. There will be MSU performances and plenty of yard games. The whole family is invited! Football game tickets will NOT be provided.

  • College of Veterinary Medicine Tailgate 
    • 12:30 – 3:30 p.m.
    • Tent on the field by Dem Hall
    • No cost to attend, but registration is required 
    • Return to campus to greet old friends, enjoy the beautiful weather and good food and watch some Spartans football.

  • Homecoming Tailgate at MSU Law
    • 1 – 3 p.m.
    • Law College

    • Enjoy food, drinks, and games while reconnecting with fellow law school alumni at our Law College Homecoming Tailgate.

Sunday, Sept. 24 

  • Music and the Garden
    • 1 – 4 p.m. 
    • Beal Botanical Garden
    • No cost to attend 
    • Join us for an interactive experience of music, art and science at the heart of the MSU campus. Activities start with drop-in
      family-oriented art and science activities. Bring your lawn chair or a blanket to set up for a concert that begins at 2 p.m., featuring MSU College of Music groups and ensembles, followed by post-concert topics about plants. Sept. 24 will feature a performance by a graduate violinist.
