Homecoming Parade Information

Homecoming | Spartans Inspire Success | Michigan State University | 2019

The 2019 MSU Homecoming Parade will be on Friday, September 27 at 6:00 p.m. The parade will begin at the Hannah Community Center, travel down Abbot to Grand River and into campus at the Farm Lane entrance.

The annual Homecoming Parade features more than 130 entries, including the Spartan Marching Band, the MSU Alumni Band, student organizations, MSU athletic teams and dance teams, MSU colleges and departments, Greek sororities and fraternities, East Lansing community groups, Michigan high school bands, and much more.

Homecoming Parade Entries

All student groups and community groups are encouraged to participate in the MSU Homecoming Parade and can register to do so by completing the online registration form. Registration is only available online, and applications will be accepted up until parade staging capacity has been met.

Parade Rules

MSU student groups, community groups, and elected officials are asked to follow guidelines to ensure enjoyment of the Homecoming Parade.

Homecoming Parade Volunteers

  • We are also looking for volunteers to help with the parade! We are seeking enthusiastic students for the following shifts:

  • Volunteer Type: Parade Set-Up
    Time: 2:30-5 p.m.
    Description: Assist with parade set-up
  • Volunteer Type: Staging
    Time: 3:30-7:30 p.m.
    Description: Assist in getting the parade entries organized and started on time
  • Volunteer Type: Parade Marshals
    Time: 5-8 p.m.
    Description: Maintain parade flow
  • Volunteer Type: Police Intersection
    Time: 5-8 p.m.
    Description: Volunteers will assist the East Lansing Police department with street closures during the parade.

If you are interested in volunteering for the MSU Homecoming Parade, please register below. T-shirts will be given to those volunteering. Parade assignments and instructions will be sent by email a week before the parade.

2018 Homecoming Parade Winners

The 2018 MSU Homecoming Parade featured more than 130 entries. Our judges selected the following floats as the best in class and members were recognized at halftime of the football game.

  • Best Float: MSU Forestry Club
  • Best Banner: International Students Association
  • Best Group: Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention
  • Best Spartan Spirit: MSU Black Alumni Scholarship Students
  • Best Community Group: Sorority House Moms
  • Best Campus Department: Residential and Hospitality Services
  • Text to Vote Fan Favorite: MSU Pompon
