Homecoming Parade Information

MSU Alumni Band

The 2018 MSU Homecoming Parade will be Friday, October 5 at 6:00 p.m. The parade begins at the Hannah Community Center, travels down Abbot to Grand River, and into campus at the Farm Lane entrance.

The annual Homecoming Parade features more than 130 entries, including the Spartan Marching Band, the MSU Alumni Band, student organizations, MSU athletic teams and dance teams, MSU colleges and departments, Greek sororities and fraternities, East Lansing community groups, Michigan high school bands, and much more.

Homecoming Parade Entries

All student groups and community groups are encouraged to participate in the MSU Homecoming Parade and can register to do so by completing the online registration form (available in early September). Registration is only available online, and applications will be accepted up until parade staging capacity has been met.

MSU student groups, community groups, and elected officials are asked to follow guidelines to ensure enjoyment of the Homecoming Parade.

Homecoming Parade Volunteers

If you’re interested in volunteering with the MSU Homecoming Parade, please fill out the online form when registration becomes available in early September.

Text to Vote

Spartan fans will have the opportunity to win one of three $100 gift cards to the Spartan Bookstore when they vote for the "People’s Choice" parade entry via text message.

The "People's Choice" winning entry will receive a plaque from the MSU Alumni Association. Registered Student Organizations are eligible to win an additional $500 prize.

Voting will only be available during parade hours.

2017 Homecoming Parade Winners

The 2017 MSU Homecoming Parade featured more than 130 entries. Our judges selected the following floats as the best in class and members were recognized at halftime of the football game.

  • Best Float: The MSUBA Scholarship Students
  • Best Banner: Student Greenhouse Project
  • Best Group: MSU Pompon
  • Best Spartan Spirit: MSU Dance Club
  • Best Community Group: Josh Bader Spartan Stilt Walker
  • Best Campus Department: Residential and Hospitality Services
  • Text to Vote People's Choice: MSU Dance Club
