ABOUT THE KEDZIE LUNCHEON

Starting in 1929 at the suggestion of former MSU president Dr. Frank S. Kedzie, MSU began hosting an event called the Patriarchs’ Luncheon for alumni who graduated 50 or more years ago. It was at the third annual Patriarchs’ Luncheon that the Kedzie Cane was presented to the oldest living alumnus in attendance, Daniel Strange, class of 1867. The 37” coffee wood cane was donated by Dr. Kedzie and was previously owned by his father, William Kedzie. The Patriarchs’ Luncheon was eventually renamed the Kedzie Society Luncheon and continues annually. Each year the Alumni Association presents the Kedzie Cane Award to both the oldest male and female in attendance.
